Movie Review: Perahu Kertas

Perahu Kertas is a new movie that is taken from a novel of Perahu Kertas. This movieis directed by Hanung Bramatyo. Perahu Kertas tells about romance life’s between Kugy and Keenan. This movie is filled with many conflicts that arise from many personal problems.

The story of Perahu Kertas began when Kugy and Keenan were studying in Bandung. Kugy has ambition to be a fairy tale writer. So, she studies in faculty of Literature. And Keenan is a talented young painter. But his father force to studying in faculty of economics. Kugy has close friends, they are Noni, Eko and Keenan. Startedfrom admiring each other, actually keenan and kugy fell in love. But many problems obscure their love. The Friendship between noni and kugy also broke temporarily because kugy doesn’t attending a Noni’s birthday party at Wanda’s home. Because Keenan disagree with his father’s advice to stuy in faculty of economics, he goes to Mr. Wayan’s home in Bali to study about painting.

Meanwhile, Kugyis very busy to finish her study in faculty of Literature. In Bali, Keenan has a close friend named Luhde. Luhde fell in love with Keenan. And Luhde become Keenan’s girlfriend. This problem also happens to Kugy. She work in AdVocaDo’s advertising agency owned by Remi. After Kugy give a good idea in this advertising agency, Remi fell in love with Kugy. However, because of  Keenan and Kugy have a great love, so they can unite their love. And Kugy believe that Neptunus will help their problems.

Perahu Kertas is movie that seems to strengthen the present trend in Indonesian movie. I’m sure that everyone is wondering about Kugy’s and keenan’s performance because of their struggle to solve many problems in their life. Seeing from the characterization, this movie supported by best actors and actresses, such as Maudy Ayunda, Adipati Dolken, Sylvia Fully R, Fauzan Smith, Tyo Pakusadewo, Elyzia Mulachela, Reza Rahadian. They are able to display their best performances. The cinematographer does his job very well. He can present the natural beauty of Indonesia’s environment well. However, Perahu Kertas is not perfect at all. The story in this movie is not really complete as in the novel.
